On Friday, March 8th around noon a dwelling fire was reported in the 2500 block of Hollins Street in the Shipley Hill section of southwest Baltimore. When units arrived they reported heavy smoke showing and the company in the rear reported heavy fire conditions on both floors extending laterally to both side exposures. All three houses were vacant and boarded up and smoke was coming from all three homes. A working fire assignment was requested by Command as firefighters made their way into the front side of the block.
Fire quickly broke through the roof of the main fire building and firefighters made their way to the roof to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the block. There was a partial collapse into the second floor and Command requested the second alarm.
It took about an hour to bring the fire under control. This was the third working fire in the westside’s Third Battalion since their shift began at seven o’clock this morning. No injuries were reported and Fire Investigation was on the scene to determine the cause.
