On February 19, 2015 firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire as well as the elements in the Forest Park section of northwest Baltimore. This was the second 2-alarm fire that occurred in the early morning hours.
At around 0318 hours Box Alarm 40-5 was dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 4200 block of Granada Avenue. The temperature was in the low teens with a below zero wind chill. When units arrived they found a recently constructed 2-story frame duplex home with the back side of both units fully involved and into the roof. Several residents from both homes managed to escape into the cold before firefighters arrived.
A working fire and second alarm were struck out within 5 minutes and companies began to attack the fire with ladder pipes and handlines. It was brought under control in about an hour. No injuries were reported.
The earlier second alarm occurred in northeast Baltimore shortly after midnight and was brought under control in about an hour.
