Later in the same day, at 1107 hours, units from the Fifth Battalion responded to a reported dwelling fire in the Walbrook section of west Baltimore. Engine 20 and Truck 18, from the Walbrook Station, were first to arrive and found heavy fire coming from the front and side B of the end dwelling of a 2-story brick duplex.
Crews entered the first floor of 2200 Mt. Holly Street and made their way to the second floor where they were stopped by heavy fire conditions ahead of them. Battalion Chief 5 arrived and upgraded it to a working fire. Crews then backed out to make a defensive stand on the fire building. Crews remained in exposure D pulling the ceilings and found there was no fire extension. Units with hand lines inside along with the exterior crews on the front porch held the fire to the original house.
About 25 minutes into the battle fire broke through the center section of the roof and continued to burn until it collapsed into the second floor. Crews continued with blitz lines on all three sides and brought it under control in an hour.
One firefighter suffered a burn to his hand and was transported to the hospital and later released. Fire Investigation was requested to the scene.
