Around 0830 hours companies were dispatched to Fire Box alarm 31-20 for a reported house fire at 620 E. 34th Street in the Waverly section of north Baltimore. When units arrived they observed smoke coming from the eaves and roof of a 2 ½ story single family frame dwelling. Apparently the homeowner was burning paint off of the second floor exterior wall when flames had gotten into the wall and eaves above him and into the attic of the house.
Firefighters entered the house and began to tear into the interior walls and attic space to get at the hidden fire. Because of the limited access and the old wood construction Command requested a second alarm about 20 minutes later. Units continued to make an aggressive attack and the fire was brought under control in less than an hour. No injuries were reported.
