On August 28, 2017 Fifth Battalion companies were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire located in the 3600 block of Belle Avenue in the Arlington section of northwest Baltimore. As soon as units hit the streets a large column of heavy black smoke was showing from that area. Squad 40 and Truck 12 were first to arrive and found a 1 ½ story single family frame dwelling with heavy fire showing in the rear. Apparently the fire started in the rear kitchen or on the rear porch and quickly extended up the side corner of the house to the roof and into the second floor dormer and attic space.
Battalion Chief 5 arrived with the first units and called for a working fire assignment. The fire was quickly knocked down and companies entered the second floor to open up the walls and ceiling and extinguish the hidden fire.
No injuries were reported and Fire Investigation responded to ascertain the cause of the fire. Everyone in the house at the time managed to get out before the Fire Department arrived.
