On Saturday, January 25th companies from northwest Baltimore were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire at around 6:30AM in the 5200 block of Cuthbert Avenue, in the Pimlico area. When they arrived they had a 2 ½ story vacant frame dwelling fully involved with fire impinging on the house on side D.
Once again, with the severe cold temperatures, two of the first arriving engine companies encountered frozen hydrants and had to find other alternate operating ones nearby. As firefighters began to drag hand lines to the rear yard they encountered a live electric line that had fallen on the chain link fence between the two yards and had energized the fence. So they had to maneuver around it with caution.
The fire was contained and brought under control within 45 minutes.
No injuries were reported and Fire Investigation responded to determine the cause.
