COLUMBIA, MD (WBFF) Investigators are trying to figure out what caused a 2-alarm rowhome fire in Columbia Friday afternoon.
Fire officials say at 3:15 p.m., firefighters and paramedics from the Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services (HCDFRS) were dispatched to a reported townhouse fire in the 7200 block of Procopio Circle in Columbia.
Crews arrived on location in approximately four minutes of the 911 call and reported heavy fire from two adjacent townhouses. The incident commander quickly requested a second alarm to bring additional resources to fight the fire.
Fire investigators are on location working to determine the origin and cause. Units will remain on the scene for extensive overhaul.
The fire was extinguished in less than an hour.
Two townhouses were extensively damaged and have been posted as uninhabitable. Two additional townhouses received minor damage. In total, damage is estimated at $1 million.
Four residents have reportedly been displaced as a result of the blaze, and they are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
One HCDFRS firefighter was also taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
Fire investigators from the HCDFRS Office of the Fire Marshal are working to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.
