On the evening of January 30, 2012 a dwelling fire was reported in the 5300 block of Maple Avenue in the Pimlico area of northwest Baltimore, behind the famous Pimlico Race Track. Fire box 46-6 was dispatched at 7:40 PM. Engine 46 arrived first to find a 2-story brick porch front rowhouse with heavy fire blowing out of the first floor and possibly extending to both sides. A working fire was declared and companies made their way in to attack the fire as well as checking the exposures on both sides. As the fire extended to the second floor a second alarm was struck out within about 15 minutes. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes.
The dwelling turned out to be vacant. There were no injuries and investigators were called to determine the cause of the fire.
