On Friday, May 26 Fire Box 14-70 was dispatched at 1519 hours for a fire in a vacant dwelling in the 2100 block of Wilhelm Street, again in the Shipley Hill area. Several blocks of Wilhelm Street have seen multiple fires in the past few months. This time was no different! Units pulled up in the narrow street to find the end unit, 2-story vacant with heavy smoke and fire throughout and smoke coming from several adjacent houses. Exterior operations were ordered from the start and companies set up monitor pipes and large handlines. Ten minutes later Battalion Chief 3, Mike Rudasill asked for the working fire assignment.
It took almost two hours to bring the fire under control. One firefighter was reported injured with non-life-threatening injuries.
