On Thursday, July 24, 2014, around 9:00AM a fire was reported in the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue. Again, west side companies responded and found fire blowing out of the first floor, leaping over the porch towards the second floor window of a 2-story row house. The sleeping occupants were alerted by the smoke detector sounding. When they awoke and tried to make their way out through the interior their path was blocked by smoke and fire outside of the bedroom. They made their way out through a window and jumped to safety.
Firefighters made an interior attack and knocked the fire down. The fire extended into the second floor of the adjacent house and firefighters got in and cut that fire off before too much damage was done.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. There was a minor injury to one firefighter who was transported to the hospital
