Around 1300 hours on April 27, 2021 Baltimore County dispatch alerted Second Battalion companies with Fire Box 46-18 for a fire located at 1 Chinook Court in the Twelve Trees community of Randallstown. When units arrived they had a 1 ½ story end unit townhouse with heavy fire inside and venting through the roof.
Before firefighters arrived several neighbors made several attempts to rescue a female occupant inside. They heard her calling from inside the residence but couldn’t make their way in due to a dog preventing their entry.
When firefighters arrived they also tried to get inside but were driven back by the extreme heat and deteriorating conditions. Battalion Chief 22, Rob Kemp arrived and requested a working fire assignment along with exterior operations. Shortly into the fire fight the rear portion of the house collapsed. Because of this and the exposure being wood frame construction, Command asked for the second alarm. They continued to battle the blaze with ladderpipes from the front and rear positions. It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control.
It was then that crews were able to enter the house, where they found the 53 year-old woman deceased in a first floor hallway. It was thought that she was originally out of the house and had gone back in to retrieve her dog when she became trapped. One other person escaped and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The house was a total loss and there was heavy damage to the side exposure.
