On Thursday, December 5th around 1815 hours firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire in an apartment building in the 600 block of West Lexington Street in downtown Baltimore. When units arrived, they had smoke showing from a four-story brick apartment building. Residents were evacuating and reported the fire in the fourth floor front apartment. Heavy gusting winds were prevailing at the time and fanning the fire through the walls and into the roof area above.
Command arrived and requested a working fire assignment followed by a second alarm several minutes later. Units worked from the front roof and the top deck in the rear as the fire got into the wall and roof in between the adjacent building. They worked for about an hour before the fire was placed under control.
About ten residents along with several pets were displaced from some of the apartments. They were escorted to a building across the street until an MTA bus was secured to the scene to keep them warm.
One firefighter was reported to be injured with minor injuries. Fire Investigation was requested to determine the cause of the fire.
