On August 6, 2018 a high-speed police chase resulted in a fatal accident in Cockeysville. It all started around 1400 hours in Baltimore City when a dump truck was reported stolen from a roofing company on Falls Road in the City. A short time later Baltimore County Police spotted the truck in a Walmart Parking lot in Timonium. When the man got in the truck and police approached him he drove the truck towards them forcing them to get out of the way to avoid getting hit.
The truck then drove onto York Road speeding off to avoid capture. Traveling at a high rate of speed he turned onto Cranbrook Road where he continued on. From there he crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming Nissan car at Lakevista Circle. The suspect then got out of the truck and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by the troopers who were pursuing him. During the chase he was clocked at speeds from 40-80 MPH.
At 1431 hours a rescue assignment was dispatched for the 58 year old driver trapped in the vehicle. When first responders arrived on the scene the medivac was requested due to the severity of the driver’s injuries. It took about 20 minutes to free the driver from the wreckage. Trooper 2 arrived and landed on the scene at the end of the road and the victim was then transported to the waiting helicopter. He was then flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died a short time later.
The 26 year old driver of the stolen truck was transported to Saini Hospital and treated for minor injuries. After he was treated he was jailed and charged with 19 traffic citations and 11 criminal charges including murder by the Baltimore County States Attorney and held without bail. At the time of the crash he was on probation for a 2017 burglary conviction.
