Around 1600 hours on November 22, 2023 Fire Box 30-30 was dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 2800 block of Frederick Avenue, just a few blocks east of the station of Engine 30 and Truck 8, in the Gwynns Falls neighborhood of southwest Baltimore. Units arrived to find heavy smoke issuing from the 2 and 3-story frame duplex boarded-up vacant dwelling. It was marked up as a code X-Ray property, meaning no entry for firefighters, exterior operations only. Units in the rear faced heavy overgrown vegetation on the property with heavy fire showing in the structure.
Heavy gusting winds were present fanning the fire and Command requested the second-alarm just 5 minutes after arriving.. Companies opened up the building and continued with exterior operations well into the evening until the fire was placed under control. There were some interior collapses of both houses while battling the blaze.
No injuries were reported and both houses were condemned and torn down the following day. There was some very minor damage to the occupied residence on the exposure D side. That was due to the fact that the wind gusts were blowing away from that side towards the fire building. And there were no exposures on the B Side.
