On January 8, 2019 27 EMT’s graduated from the Baltimore City Fire Department Fire Academy. Under the direction of Deputy Chief of Training, Alex Perricone and his staff the recruits completed 15 weeks of training that included medical and basic firefighter courses. Upon graduating all of them will be assigned to the EMS Division and assigned to BLS medic units throughout the City. Before going to their assignments they will be reporting to the Pimlico Training Center for 4-6 more weeks of advanced training. This will be the last class of EMT drivers to go through the Academy.
The graduation was well attended by the graduates’ families and friends as well as firefighters, officers, the Command staff, and other dignitaries. Aide to Chief of Fire Department, Roman Clark presided over the ceremony and badges were presented by the Chief of Fire Department, Dr. Niles R. Ford. Several of the graduates received their badges from relatives who are presently in the Fire Service.
The graduating class presented Chief Perricone and his staff with a painting of the Fire Academy building that was painted by local artist Lisa Marie Penn. She is the daughter of a retired City firefighter. This will be the last class to graduate under Chief Perricone. He will be retiring in the middle of this year with over 30 years of service. Shift Commander Tavon Clagget will be taking over his spot as Deputy Chief, Director of Training.
Class 18-02 is still in the Academy now and scheduled to graduate in a few more weeks. Class 19-01, a new class of Firefighter/EMT’s will commence later this year.
