On September 18, 2014 box area 4-16 was struck out at 1503 hours for a fire reported in the All Saints Lutheran Church located at 4213 Loch Raven Blvd. in the Northwood section of Baltimore.
The first units to arrive found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear section of the very large 2-story church complex. The fire originated in the mechanical room on the ground floor rear and extended toward the second floor through the walls and ceiling.
In a connected building next door was the Inheritance Child Care Center. A class was in session at the time and when the teachers began smelling smoke and hearing someone shouting “Fire” they immediately evacuated the 16 children outside to safety.
As firefighters made their way into the building to locate the fire it was beginning to gain headway into the second floor and heavy smoke was evident throughout the whole building. Battalion Chief 4 requested a second alarm about 10 minutes into the battle. A third alarm was then struck out 5 minutes later.
Firefighters located and knocked down the bulk of the fire in the rear before it could overtake the second floor. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes but not before extensive damage was done to the adjoining rooms which were mostly classroom space.
No injuries were reported.
Fire Investigation and Police Arson were on the scene to determine the cause.
