On March 29, 2008 a fire was reported at 5:45 AM at a concrete manufacturing plant at 95 Stahl Point Road in the Curtis Bay area of Anne Arundel County on the Baltimore City line. Upon arrival firefighters found two block buildings and a 100-foot high conveyer and concrete hopper fully involved. Three alarms were sounded including mutual-aid companies coming from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and BWI Airport bringing about 80 firefighters to the scene. A special call went out for the Baltimore City fire boats, but after they arrived it was found that they were not needed and returned.
A water supply was established with a hose relay from a hydrant about 3,000 feet away and ladder pipes were set up in the yard to surround the involved building. The fire was brought under control at 7:30. After the fire was out Crash Unit 436 from the BWI Airport FD was called to apply a blanket of foam on the remaining area of the building to suppress any chance of reigniting.
The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) was called to monitor the water runoff for any hazardous materials. The loss was estimated at two million dollars. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries. Units cleared at 11:00AM.
