On August 28, 2019 Third Battalion companies were dispatched to Fire Box 14-70 for a fire in a vacant mattress company in the 2000 block West Pratt Street. This building was also the scene of a previous additional alarm several months ago. The building was boarded up and when the first units arrived fire was showing from several windows in the rear as well as through the roof. Battalion Chief 3 arrived and made it a working fire. When companies cut through the corrugated roll-up doors in the front they discovered that most of the building was empty and the fire was on the second floor.
They continued fighting the fire from the exterior as the building was unsafe due to the previous fire. It was held to a working fire assignment and brought under control in about 90 minutes. No injuries were reported.
