Baltimore County Fire Dispatch began receiving multiple calls from screaming and frantic residents reporting a fire and persons trapped and people jumping from the upper floor balconies. Police were also on the scene reporting fire showing through the roof. Fire Box 18-5 was quickly dispatched and upgraded to a fire with rescue assignment added. Engine and Truck 18 arrived on the scene within minutes and immediately ordered the second alarm. Heavy fire was showing from all of the units on the third floor as well as through the roof. An aggressive interior attack was initiated along with searches in all of the adjacent apartments. Several rescues were made from the rear balconies. Five people from several apartments were injured, three of them seriously when they jumped from the third floor balcony. The other two suffered minor injuries with smoke inhalation. All were transported to Saini Hospital in Baltimore. One firefighter was transported to Northwest Hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.
