Around 8:45 AM on March 4, 2013 a dwelling fire was reported in the 4200 block of Groveland Ave. in the West Arlington area of nothwest Baltimore.
When units arrived at the large 2 ½ story frame house they had heavy fire in the first floor rear and heavy smoke throughout. When they entered they found a basement fire and the fire was extending through the floor and walls to the upper floors. Acting Battalion Chief 5 ordered a working fire assignment followed by a second alarm about 15 minutes later.
The home was filled with debris making it difficult to navigate through. Firefighters were on the inside and outside tearing apart the walls to get at and extinguish the fire. The fire was brought under control in about one hour.
It was found out later that one person lived there and had gotten out safely. The Red Cross arrived at the scene to assist the occupant.
One firefighter received minor injuries when he fell partially into a hole in the floor.
