Around 3:30AM on January 12th northeast companies were dispatched for a dwelling fire reported at 5627 Greenhill Avenue. As units left their stations they could see a glow in the early morning sky and a large column of smoke in the air. They arrived to find a 2 ½ story frame single family house fully involved with fire through the roof and threatening the homes on either side. When Battalion Chief 4 arrived he took command and made it a working fire. When companies arrived they began to attack the fire and protect the exposures on each side.
It was learned that the five people living there had all escaped the blaze due to the smoke detectors sounding.
A second alarm was requested about ten minutes later and companies fought to bring the fire under control in about one hour.
The house was a total loss and condemned by the building inspector. Fire and Police Arson were also on the scene to investigate the cause.
