Baltimore County firefighters started off the new year with a working fire in Randallstown that totally destroyed the home.
Around 1230 hours on New Year’s Day Fire Box 46-9 was dispatched for a house fire located at 3516 Hernwood Road. Engine and Truck 18 from Randallstown were first to arrive and encountered a single family house with an attached garage that was fully involved. Companies entered the basement level below the living area and started to pull the ceilings but the fire was in all of the walls and ceiling above them so they withdrew and went defensive. Command then requested a working fire assignment. There are no hydrants in the area so a Tanker Strike Team was also requested to supply water. That brought mutual aid tanker units from Howard and Carroll County to the scene.
A water supply site was set up at Hernwood Elementary School located a few miles from the scene. Additional units were called and a water shuttle was established between the school and the fire scene.
The fire was brought under control within two hours but not before the home was totally destroyed.
