On September 18, 2015 45 new recruits graduated from the Baltimore City Fire Academy as EMT Drivers. When they started the class they all were already EMT’s. Under the direction of Deputy Chief of Training, Alex J. Perricone and his staff they went through 4 weeks of EMS training that also included Firefighter I, Haz Mat Operations, Public Safety Educator, and EVOC. They were then placed out in the field to ride as the third person on the Medic Units for 4 more weeks.
The graduation was well attended by the families and friends of the recruits as well as firefighters, Chief Officers, and the Command Staff of the Baltimore City Fire Department.
Aide to Chief of Fire Department, Roman Clark, presided over the ceremony and the badges were presented to the graduates by Chief of Fire Department Niles Ford. A few of the recruits had their badges pinned on them by relatives who were in the BCFD or other fire departments in the area.
There were also several individual awards presented to deserving recruits including: Highest Academic Achievement, Best Fitness and Most Improved Fitness.
All of the graduates would report to their respective assignments within the following days and start their new careers in the Baltimore City Fire Department.
The next class was started on September 23rd. This class will train 30 more EMT Drivers as well as 6 EMT/Firefighters
