It was a quick start for firefighters in Brooklyn Park Monday morning as a fire ripped through a home on Brookwood Rd. It happened around 4:30 AM, on July 4th. Fire crews responded to the area of Christian Rd and Brookwood Rd for heavy smoke conditions. When fire crews arrived they reported heavy fire conditions on the second floor of a middle of the group row home in the 5200 block of Brookwood Rd.
Firefighters quickly got inside the home and began searching for victims. One adult male, the sole occupant, was found and removed from the fire. He was immediately taken to the paramedics. After a lengthy, unsuccessful resuscitation, the victim died at the scene. The State Medical Examiner was called to assist.
One firefighter was injured in the blaze. Sources reported the firefighter fell through a hole on second the floor. Officials confirmed the firefighter was taken to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for evaluation of injuries not believed to be life threatening.
Fire companies from Baltimore City and BWI were on scene assisting. Witnesses say the first and second floor had heavy damage.
Captain Russ Davies from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department says, "No working smoke detectors have been found in the home. The fire remains under investigation. Some damage has been reported in homes near the fire."
The identity of the adult male that died in the fire has not been released.
