On March 29, 2016 36 recruits and 2 members of the U. S. Coast Guard graduated from the Baltimore City Fire Academy. Class 15-03 was comprised of 28 EMT’s that will be assigned as EMT/Drivers to either ALS or BLS medic units that operate during the hours of 9AM-9PM seven days a week. Class 15-04 had 6 EMT/Firefighters that will be temporarily staffing EMS units and later be reassigned to suppression units. The two Coast Guard members will be assigned to their respective unit at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay.
The recruits started classes on September 23, 2015. Under the direction of Deputy Chief of Training, Alex Perricone and his staff completed extensive training in Firefighter I and Firefighter II, HazMat Operations, Public Safety Educator, and EVOC as well as the Maryland EMT courses.
The graduation was well attended by the graduates’ families and friends as well as firefighters, officers, and the Command Staff of the BCFD. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was also on hand to speak to the graduates and give them encouragement in their new careers. Badges were presented by Assistant Chief Mark Wagner. Graduates with family members in the fire service were presented their badges by those relatives. USCG Fire Chief Richard Demosiuk gave the badges to his two men.
Several individual awards were also presented to the deserving recruits who excelled in the Highest Academic Achievement, Best Fitness and the Most Improved Fitness.
All of the graduates would report to their new assignments within the next few days to start their new careers in the Baltimore City Fire Department.
