At around 1500 hours on January 16th units from the Second Battalion were dispatched to a dwelling fire in the 3600 block of Kelox Road in the Lochern section of Woodmoor. Multiple calls were being received by Dispatch and when Engine 3 (Woodlawn) arrived they had a 2-story single family dwelling fully involved and starting to collapse on its self. The exposure on Side B was burning on the side and roof. Live electric power lines were also down in the street in the front. When Battalion Chief 2 arrived he asked for a working fire assignment.
Crews led off and set up monitor pipes and ladder pipes. They began to protect the other exposures next door and across the street from the extreme radiant heat. They also entered the exposure that was on fire at 3615. The fire had extended into the attic of that single family house. The heat was so intense that it melted the siding on the other side exposure and well as across the street.
The house was reportedly being renovated and no on was home at the time. The owner was asleep in an RV next to the house and woke up to find it on fire and had to escape. The house was completely destroyed and was placed under control at 1645 hours.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
