Around 0630 hours on January 31, 2017 firefighters responded to a reported building fire in the 1100 block of Greenmount Avenue, just north of downtown Baltimore. Units arrived on the scene and found heavy fire coming from the second and third floors of two 3-story connected rowhouses that appeared to be vacant. Crews in the rear reported heavy smoke coming from a one story offset and the floors above.
Battalion Chief 2 arrived and took command and made it a working fire five minutes later. Crews attempted entry in the front and rear and began hitting the fire from the exterior. Command requested the second alarm 13 minutes after the initial box assignment. Companies knocked the heavy fire down from the outside and after gaining entry brought the fire under control within an hour.
Although it looked like two boarded up vacant dwellings the building was being used as an after-hours night club.
The fire appeared to have started in the rear one-story garage type section. Fire Investigation was requested to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
