On December 28, 2013, around midnight, a box alarm was struck alerting stations 1(Elkridge), 2 (Ellicott City), 9 (Long Reach), 5 (BCo. Halethorpe), 35 (BCo. Arbutus), Battalion Chief 1 and 2, EMS1, and Safety 1 for a reported house on fire at 5005 Ellis Lane in the Ilchester area of Howard County. Units arrived on the scene of a large two story house that was well involved with reports of people trapped. Crews went to work aggressively performing a quick search as well as stretching multiple hand lines to attack the fire and to protect exposures on both sides. Searches proved negative and crews were withdrawn from the structure as ladder pipes were set up to go defensive. A task force as well as a second alarm was requested bringing additional units from Howard and Baltimore County as well as the Baltimore City Fire Department. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked, crews reentered the structure to finish extinguishing the fire. There were no fire department personnel injuries reported and the cause is under investigation at this time by Howard County FI personnel. The scene was commanded by Battalion Chief 1(Rommal).
