On January 5, 2013 firefighters responded to a reported dwelling fire at 1611 Langford Road in the Westview area of Baltimore County.
A half an hour earlier paramedics were on the scene at that location with a 25 year old woman with psychiatric problems. No services were rendered and Medic 13 had cleared the scene and returned back to quarters.
When fire box 13-14 was dispatched at 0635 hours responding units were informed that a person was in custody of the police on the scene and had advised them that she had lit the bedroom on fire before she left the building.
Because of the fire, for her own safety, the police placed her in their patrol car. But while in the car she kicked out one of the car’s windows. She was then arrested and proceeded to assault the officer. After admitting that she set the fire because of an ongoing dispute she was then charged with first-degree arson, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and two counts of destruction of property. She was then taken to the Baltimore County Detention Center and held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
When the first units from Westview and Catonsville arrived on the scene they found a 2-story brick, end of group, rowhouse with heavy fire blowing from the second floor windows on sides A and B. Battalion Chief 2 arrived with them and made it a working fire. Companies made an aggressive interior attack on the fire and knocked it down within a few minutes. Crews then checked the roof and adjacent exposure for any extension. The fire was declared under control within 30 minutes.
Police Arson was requested to the scene. No injuries were reported.
