On November 16, 2022 a full LODD Fire Department funeral was held for 34 year old EMT/Firefighter Juan Wilson, an 11 year veteran assigned to Engine Co. 53 in Edmondson Village.
On September 19th around 2130 hours Engine 53 was dispatched on a medical standby run in the Irvington section of southwest Baltimore. When they arrived a patient was in cardiac arrest and the crew began medical treatment including CPR. While performing CPR Wilson suffered a medical emergency himself and went into cardiac arrest. His crew immediately went to his aid and the officer requested another Medic Unit along with a suppression unit to assist with both patients. At the same time continuing their efforts on the original victim.
Once the Paramedics arrived they began advanced level care and were able to regain a pulse on Firefighter Wilson. Both patients were transported to hospitals. He was transported to University of MD. Shock Trauma and admitted in critical condition where he remained until he passed away on Sunday, October 30th. On Monday the Fire Department transported his body from the Medical Examiners Office to the Wylie Funeral Home in Randallstown.
Friends, relatives, and co-workers turned out for the funeral service that was held at the New Antioch Baptist Church of Randallstown on November 16th. Following the service the procession travelled to King Memorial Park in Windsor Mill for the final service and interment.
This was the sixth fire department death this year.
