Shortly before 7:00PM on December 11, 2014 firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire across from 4011 Bateman Avenue, in northwest Baltimore. A light snow had been falling throughout the late afternoon and into the evening hours.
When units arrived fire was throughout the whole attic area and through the roof of the 2 ½ story frame house under renovation. Battalion Chief 5 arrived and took command and requested a working fire assignment and ladder pipes were immediately set up. Crews went to the rear with large hand lines and a collapse zone was set up. Five minutes later a second alarm was requested to supplement the water supply.
The fire was brought under control in an hour. The roof and gable ends of the house burned and collapsed into the second floor.
No injuries were reported and the cause is under investigation.
