Shortly before 1:30PM on Friday, December 19th Box Alarm 20-7 was dispatched for a dwelling fire located at 3401 Elgin Avenue in the Walbrook section of northwest Baltimore. Companies arrived and found a large 2 ½ story frame single family dwelling that had been sectioned off into apartments. Heavy smoke was present throughout the whole structure. After some searching they found a basement fire and started their attack. Battalion Chief 5 had command and made it a working fire at 1:37. The fire had gotten into the walls and began travelling to the upper floors. Command requested an additional truck company at 1:54 to assist with opening up the walls and ceilings. The fire was still in the voids and with heavy smoke conditions still throughout the premises a second alarm was requested at 2:07. At one point fire broke through the rear first floor wall and crews were finally able to get a hold on it and it was brought under control in about an hour and a half. There were no injuries and Fire Investigation and Police Arson responded
