A serious accident occurred on Baltimore’s west side around 2:20 PM on June 1, 2011. It happened at Edmondson Avenue and Chapel Gate Lane right at the Baltimore City-County line and involved a MTA bus and an automobile. The car had run a stop sign on Chapel Gate Lane and was hit by an MTA bus traveling east on Edmondson Avenue. The impact threw one of the three people in the car onto the street. A rescue assignment was initially dispatched. Engine 53 arrived to find one person trapped in the car and one person injured lying in the street. Firefighters and Paramedics started working on the victim in the street and extricating the one still trapped in the car. Further investigation found multiple people on the bus claiming injuries and a mass casualty incident was created. Another assignment was dispatched bringing 4 engines, 1 truck, a Battalion Chief and several more medic units to the scene, including two from Baltimore County.
A total of 15 people on the bus were transported to area hospitals. The driver and two passengers of the automobile were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center
