Around 4:40 PM Second Battalion companies were alerted for a chimney fire in a dwelling in the 8400 block of Dogwood Road, located near the Patapsco Valley State Park near the Baltimore-Howard County line.
Engine 13 from Westview was first to arrive on the scene and had smoke showing from a two-story frame farm house. The house was located at the end of a mile-long single lane road and driveway in a non-hydrant rural area of Woodlawn. Engine 18 from Randallstown arrived and set up a draft site from a small stream located about a quarter mile from the property and supplied water to the scene.
Companies began an interior attack on the fire which had spread from the chimney to the interior first and second floors. The main electric line to the house became involved and there was some heavy arching and burning on the exterior AD corner until BGE arrived on the scene to cut the power off to the house.
Battalion Chief 24 was in command and requested a working fire assignment followed by a tanker strike team a few minutes later to supplement the water supply.
The fire was brought under control within an hour and crews remained on the scene overhauling and mopping up hot spots for about another hour before clearing.
