On April 2, 2012 Squad 47 was dispatched to Hollins Ferry Road and Patapsco Avenue for a fuel spill. When they arrived they found a tractor-trailer that had drove through a parking lot and had caught the fuel saddle tank on a raised curb puncturing the tank spilling the fuel onto the ground. The firefighters worked to contain the spilled fuel and prevent it from entering a storm drain nearby. A building contractor was working next door to the incident and they got a worker with a Bobcat to move some dirt to dike up the fuel to keep it from getting into the sewer system. HazMat 3 and the HazMat Coordinator were called to the scene to assist. They contained all of the fuel and then pumped the remaining fuel from the tanks into overpack drums to be disposed.
The Maryland Department of the Environment was also called to the scene. All of the fuel was recovered and the scene was then cleaned up within a few hours.
