Around 11:00AM on April 27, 2012 Engine and Medic 3 from Woodlawn were dispatched for a medical problem located on the ramp from Liberty Road south to the northbound I-695. When they arrived they found a BGE utility truck off of the road and on its side with a single occupant trapped inside. A rescue assignment was then requested for extrication.
Before the rescue crews arrived firefighters and medics entered the truck through the windshield and started to assess and treat the male driver.
First due Squad 322 from Pikesville was out of service. Truck 323 was on the road returning to station so they responded to the incident along with Truck 18 and Battalion Chief 2. Pikesville Volunteers arrived on the scene with Tower 323 and crews began work stabilizing the vehicle and removing the roof to gain access to the driver who had apparently suffered a seizure and lost control of the vehicle.
The roof was cut off in about 25 minutes and the victim was removed from the vehicle, packaged and placed in the medic unit where he was then transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Along with the fire department Baltimore County and Maryland State Police were on the scene. The ramp to the beltway was then reopened to traffic after their investigation and the vehicle was towed away.
