On March 25, 2015 fire broke out in the Green Acres Apartments located at 3607 Fallstaff Road in the Fallstaff section northwest Baltimore, the heart of Baltimore’s Jewish community. At around 0650 hours a resident of the third floor left an unattended stove burner on that ignited a fire that quickly spread throughout the apartment. That resident fled the apartment and alerted the other residents of the building to evacuate.
When firefighters arrived one resident had to be rescued from a third floor balcony. They began an interior attack but quickly withdrew when heavy fire broke through the roof and spread through the common cockloft area and overtook other apartments on the top floor. A working fire was requested. As companies began setting up ladder pipes for exterior operations a second alarm was struck out. About 20 minutes later a special call was requested for two more ladder trucks because of the size and layout of the garden style apartment building.
The fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes. Sixty residents were displaced from the building that housed 24 units. The residents were sheltered at the Northwestern High School directly across the street from the fire. The Red Cross was dispatched to the scene and made contact with the affected residents as the fire was still burning. At least four units were destroyed and most of the others suffered heavy smoke and water damage. One unit was vacant. The building sustained about $600,000 in damages. The damage to each unit was estimated at $5,000 of loss to contents.
No injuries were reported.

I was asleep in the building when the fire broke out. Thanks so much for covering this. This is more information than I have had until now... I'm glad I discovered your site.

One correction... your statement "That resident fled the apartment and alerted the other residents of the building to evacuate". There were only 2 people that I know of that were going door to door waking people up and getting them to evacuate, both Jewish, and neither of which was a resident of the building... they saw the fire while passing by and waited until a resident left so they could get into the building since the outer doors were locked
