On June 12, 2024 around 1400 hours Baltimore firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire in the 1900 block of East 30th Street in the Coldstream-Homestead neighborhood of northeast Baltimore. Heavy smoke was evident in the neighborhood sky as all units responded to the scene. They arrived to find heavy fire and smoke in the front of two 2-story brick end units of the block. In the rear there were wooden porches on the backs of both houses that were fully involved and collapsing. A live electric line was also down on the ground.
Battalion Chief 4 arrived and assumed command and immediately made it a working fire. While units were operating in the rear one firefighter was seen crawling out of the first floor doorway and fell to the ground narrowly escaping serious injury. He was assisted away from the building and treated at the scene with no injuries. At 1445 hours a special call was made bringing an additional engine and truck to the scene. Units continued with exterior operations until the bulk of the fire was knocked down and they could enter and wet down the remaining hot spots. The fire was placed under control in about 90 minutes.
The two dwellings involved were actually connected on the interior, operating as one house. One civilian was also treated with non-life-threatening injuries. Fire Investigation was on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
