On Monday, December 11, 2023 at approximately 1530 hours Baltimore City Firefighters battled a dwelling fire in the 4200 block of Potter Street in the Irvington neighborhood of southwest Baltimore. Units arrived on the scene to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of this location. When Battalion Chief 3 arrived he took command and made it a working fire. Fire-fighters began an interior attack on the fire and while performing search and rescue operations they located a victim inside the dwelling. The victim was secured by firefighters and removed to the exterior where he was treated by Paramedics on the scene.
While battling the fire, firefighters found several holes on both floors of the structure. The incident commander then ordered an evacuation of the structure to assure the safety of firefighters. At this point firefighters maintained exterior operations until the fire was brought under control within an hour.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. One firefighter was also injured with minor burns.
