In the early morning hours on February 7, 2016 fire broke out in the Frederick Manor Apartment located in the 4900 block of Frederick Avenue in the Tremont area of southwest Baltimore. Fire Box 53-52 was dispatched at 0332 hours. Units arrived within minutes and reported heavy fire showing from the top floor of a 3-story brick garden apartment building. Companies were arriving and laying in lines when the fire began to break through the roof. As companies were preparing to make entry, Engine 14 who was on the scene as R.I.T., asked for the second alarm to be struck out. Shortly thereafter Battalion Chief 3 arrived on the scene and took command.
Firefighters made their way in and located the fire, and began to knock it down. An unconscious victim was found in the apartment and brought out to the street where firefighters and paramedics performed CPR on him. He was immediately transported to the hospital where he remained in critical condition until he died two days later.
The fire was knocked down in twenty minutes and placed under control in about an hour. No other injuries were reported. 8 families were affected and displaced by the fire. Fire Investigation determined that the fire was caused by unattended cooking on the stove. The 25 year old man was the third fatality of the year.
