Around 1430 hours Fire Box 50-13 was dispatched for a dwelling fire at 6 Rises Court in the Chestnut Rise community of Cockeysville. The house sits on a dead end road off of Falls Road with the only access being a common driveway that leads to the house. When units arrived they found the single family split level home with fire through the roof of an enclosed porch on Side B. It was quickly upgraded to a working fire and with no hydrants in the area, a Tanker Strike Team was also dispatched. Firefighters started an interior attack and after a collapse of the roof and walls on the AB corner retreated to set up exterior operations.
With a slight wind blowing burning embers began setting the nearby woods, trees and a field around the house ablaze and a second alarm was struck out to bring more manpower to the scene.
Units set up portable water tanks and water shuttle operations in the main driveway and Baltimore County Police had to close down Falls Road to traffic.
Firefighters were able to get back into the house within about 30 minutes and knock down the rest of the fire and the fire was placed under control within an hour. One firefighter and an occupant of the home suffered minor injuries that turned out to be non life-threatening. Investigators were on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
