On Saturday June 16, 2018 at 1054 hours units were dispatched to a report of a shed fire in the rear of the 2000 block McElderry Street near Johns Hopkins Hospital in east Baltimore (Fire Box 33-51). As units were responding they observed a large column of black smoke in that area. Engine 33 and Truck 1 arrived first and reported to the rear where they found heavy fire and smoke showing from two 2-story dwellings located at 2025 and 2027 McElderry St. The fire started in the areaway between the two dwellings and involved the vinyl siding all the way up to the roof, extending into the second floor of both structures.
Battalion Chief 1 assumed Command and requested a working fire assignment. Firefighters gained entry into both structures where they knocked down the fire and checked for further extension. The fire was brought under control within half an hour.
Both structures were unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported. FIB was requested to the scene to determine the cause.
