Shortly before 12:30PM on September 26th a fire broke out on the top floor of a three-story apartment building in Lansdowne. The fire was reported as 2 Silerton Road. First arriving units had heavy smoke showing throughout and fire through the roof of two units on the top floor. Residents had self evacuated before the Fire Department’s arrival. Mutual aid was dispatched from Baltimore City along with County units on the first alarm.
A second alarm was quickly requested and more mutual aid companies responded from Anne Arundel and Howard County. Crews began an interior attack but quickly evacuated and set up an exterior attack with ladder pipes from the front and rear. A fire wall between the buildings on Side B prevented the fire from spreading farther down the complex.
The fire was brought under control at 1:50 PM and when it was done twelve units were completely destroyed or had smoke and water damage to them. 13 adults and 14 children were displaced by the fire and the Red Cross was requested to help those impacted.
One firefighter suffered a non-life threatening hand injury. Fire investigators were on the scene to determine the cause.
