Around noon on March 21st Engine 13 and Ambulance 29 were dispatched to a reported overturned tanker truck at Druid Hill Avenue near Retreat Street. When units arrived they didn’t find an accident but had a parked tanker trailer overturned on its side at the side of the street. One of the stationary legs that was holding it up had collapsed causing it to turn over.
After investigating it they found that it was loaded with 5,200 gallons of Ethylene Glycol(anti-freeze) and that some of it was leaking out of the top. Engine 13 requested a Haz Mat assignment to the scene. When those units arrived they surveyed the situation and started off loading the product from the tanker. Upon further investigation they found that it was leaking from the top dome and successfully stopped the leak there. A total of only 50 gallons had leaked out of the truck. The situation was secured and a contractor was called in to upright and remove the tanker.
