Shortly after 11:00AM on May 28, 2011 Squad 40 and Medic 8 were dispatched to an automobile accident reported at Liberty Heights and Elderado Avenues in northwest Baltimore. When Firefighters and Paramedics arrived they found an SUV on its side wrapped into a pole. A rescue assignment was requested bringing Rescue 1 and other additional equipment to the scene.
When firefighters extricated the victim they found that he had suffered multiple gunshots to his upper body and legs before he had crashed into the pole. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that another car had pulled up to the victim’s car at a red light several blocks prior to the accident scene, at Hillsdale Avenue. That driver had gotten out and fired several shots into the SUV, got back in his car and fled the scene. While being shot at the victim stepped on the gas pedal, speeding south on Liberty Heights Avenue. At Elderado Avenue he struck a pedestrian at a bus stop and two poles. He crashed through the first pole and stopped into the second one.
The pedestrian that was hit suffered a broken leg and was taken to Sinai Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
Baltimore City Police are investigating the circumstances of the murder and accident.
