On Monday, May 22, 2023 around 1218 hours a tactical fire box was dispatched sending Engine 30, 47, and Truck 8 to a garage fire at 2618 Hafer Street in the Shipley Hill neighborhood of southwest Baltimore. When they arrived on the narrow street they had a vacant one story garage with fire showing. As they started to hit the fire something exploded inside sending fire into a 2-story block long warehouse connected to the rear of the garage. This building was situated in a severely overgrown location with access to only one side.
The remainder of the fire box was requested and companies began exterior operations on the vacant warehouse. It was in a very deteriorated condition and at 1245 a working fire assignment was requested by Battalion Chief 3, in Command. Access to the building was extremely limited due to severely overgrown vegetation.
It took almost two hours to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries reported and Fire Investigation was on the scene.
