By BC Pat LePore: On February 20, 2025 Box Alarm 1-5 was sounded at 0900 hours alerting stations 12, 1, AA Co.21, 2, 9, 10, B Co. 5, BC1, BC2, EMS1, and Safety 1 for the reported building fire in the 6600 block of Amberton Drive.
Units arrived to find a large 97,000 square foot warehouse with rack storage and numerous stored pallets of paper products with a working fire inside the warehouse with a sprinkler activation. A working fire dispatch was requested at 0906 bringing additional units from stations 6, B Co. 35, 7, BWI 43, 14, 9, AA Co. 29 and 4, AC1 and support staff to assist.
Crews fought the deep seated and stubborn fire for several hours as part of the large pallets and portions of the rack storage collapsed inside the warehouse. Due to the large area and heavy smoke conditions, large ventilation fan units from Maryland City, Ram Fan 1, and an Air Boat from Frederick County Carroll Manor, Air Boat 28 responded to assist with smoke removal. No injuries occurred and the fire took over eight hours to finally extinguish. The scene was commanded by BC1 M. Stout.
