A one-alarm fire struck the Strawberry Hill Apartments in Woodlawn on March 26, 2017. Around 1400 hours smoke was reported in an apartment building at 5908 Franklin Avenue. Truck 13 from Westview along with Engine 331 from Woodlawn VFD arrived first and reported heavy smoke from the basement level of the 3-story garden style apartment building. When Battalion Chief 2 arrived he requested the working fire assignment followed by a special call for 2 additional engines several minutes later. Firefighters made an interior attack and located the fire in an electrical panel in a basement level apartment. Smoke quickly filled the entire building and all families inside managed to escape. Firefighters ventilated all three levels of the building.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. No one was injured and a family of 5 was displaced by the fire in their apartment.
