On October 31st EMT/Firefighter Recruit Class 17-01 graduated in front of their friends and family as well as firefighters, Chief Officers and the Command Staff of the Baltimore City Fire Department. Baltimore Mayor, Catherine Pugh was also in attendance.
49 men and women completed seven months of extensive training under the direction of Deputy Chief Alexander Perricone and his staff. Courses included Firefighter I and II, Public Safety Educator, EVOC, Rescue Site Ops and VME, and Haz Mat Operations. Included in the graduating class were 1 BCFD Community Aide and two members of the U. S. Coast Guard.
Aide to Chief of Fire Department, Roman Clark, presided over the ceremony and badges were presented by Chief of Department Niles R. Ford. Several of the graduates received their badges from relatives who are presently in the Fire Service or retired from Fire Departments in the area. USCG Chief of Damage Control, Lawrence Musser, presented badges to his two members.
The class presented a large wall plaque to Chief Perricone and his staff as a token of appreciation.
All of the graduates will be assigned to suppression units. Some will be detailed to medic units for 6 months before being rotated back to suppression. Some will report to Pimlico Training Center for additional training. The two Coast Guard members will be assigned to their respective unit at the Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay.
30 EMT/Firefighters from Class 17-03 are presently in training at the Academy and are expected to graduate in March, 2018.
