On November 17, 2014 around 2:15 PM fire ripped through a 2-story brick warehouse owned by the Eagle Coffee Company located in the 1100 block of Hillen Street in Baltimore’s Oldtown neighborhood. The warehouse is located behind the company’s main showroom building in the 400 block of East Street. The family operated coffee distribution business has been doing business in Baltimore for the last 93 years.
Heavy smoke and fire was showing as units arrived on the scene and Battalion Chief 2 established Command and declared a working fire and initiated exterior operations from the start. Eighteen minutes later Command requested the second alarm. Companies continued to battle the flames and the fire was brought under control in about 90inutes.
The third-generation owner of the coffee roasting company said that boxes and supplies were in the rear warehouse and the damage estimate was placed at around $150,000 dollars. The building and contents are insured.
There were no injuries reported and all of the employees working at the time were able to evacuate before the arrival of the Fire Department.
Fire and Police Arson detectives were on the scene to determine the cause.
